1. What is Egyptian Cotton?
Egyptian Cotton
Experience the luxury of Egyptian cotton bedding at a fraction of the high street price and sleep soundly night after night in this top of the range bed linen that is both soft and durable.
All our Egyptian cotton bed linen is manufactured from 100% long staple yarn, Egyptian cotton.
The term Egyptian cotton is usually applied to the extra long staple cotton produced in Egypt and favored for the luxury and up-market brands worldwide. In fact, the cotton species which produces extra long staple "Egyptian" cotton is the native American species Gossypium barbadense. During the U.S. Civil War, with heavy European investments, Egyptian-grown cotton became a major alternate source for British textile mills. Most of what is labeled "Egyptian cotton" today, however, also includes long staple cotton, the product of the other native American species Gossypium hirsutum. The ancient Egyptians made their clothing from linen, a product of the flax plant.
2. What is Thread Count?
The thread count is the number of threads in a square inch of fabric. This is achieved by measuring the number of threads in the Warp (length) and the weft (width). Economy cottons will be around 95/110, while good quality sheets will start at 150. Anything above 280 brings you into the luxury range (Percale).
The thread count is also influenced by the construction and quality of the yarn used. With finer threads, such as Egyptian Cotton, more threads can be woven into a square inch, which produces a finer fabric. This insulates the body by retaining air, but allowing the moisture to pass freely through.
It is well to be wary of marketing claims of very high thread counts, sometimes up to 500. These claims are made by twisting lower quality fine gossamer threads to achieve the high numbers for customers, who may, understandably, buy on thread count alone.

5. Care Hints
Egyptian Cotton
Egyptian Cotton linens become softer and more luxurious with washing. You may find that your bed linens are more likely to wrinkle, until they have been washed a few times. Our linens are designed to give you many years of stunning good looks - So use every day and enjoy.
Washing
Home laundering is recommended for all of our linens. We would recommend that you wash all linens before use and avoid washing with Polyester fabrics. This is because Polyester is prone to pilling, and these pills can stick to the natural fibers and reduce the sheen of your linen.
Bed Linen should be washed in warm water (no higher than 40C), using a gentle detergent followed by a cold rinse. Do not use excessive amounts of washing detergent, as this can clog the fibers. Unless they are very soiled, your linen will be just as clean with a smaller amount of detergent. Remove from the washing machine straight away to avoid wrinkles.
Unlike man made fibers, cotton will benefit from line-drying, leaving them almost wrinkle free and smelling fresh. If you wish you may also tumble dry on a low heat. Use the cool down cycle at the end to reduce wrinkles. Shaking your linen before putting it into the tumble dryer will also help reduce creasing. Remove from the tumble dryer promptly after the cycle has finished, and fold carefully, making sure that details such as pillow case sham flanges and sheet cuffs are lying flat.
Press with a warm iron if needed. Iron your bed linens while they are still damp. If the piece is embroidered, ironing on the reverse side will prevent damage to the embroidery.
Duvet
Luxury Winter duvet filled with 70% small feather and 30% natural down. This is available in both Goose and Duck products The duvet filling is box-stitched ensuring that the feathers stay in place while the cloth walls eradicate cold spots.
While the feather and down has been specially chosen for it's high thermal qualities, all our natural duvets contain fillings that have been washed, sterilised and steam purified to the European Feather & Down Associations highest standards making them hypoallergenic.
Down & Feather Products
Loft: When you unpack your duvet, the packaging will have compressed the air inside the duvet. You can regain your duvet's natural, luxurious loft by letting it warm up and shaking it.
Covers: To protect your investment, it is important to use a pillow protector, duvet cover or a featherbed cover on the appropriate product. Wash the cover when you wash your sheets.
Cleaning: All Down and Feather products should be dry cleaned only.
Storage: When storing a duvet, place the duvet in a breathable cover.
